Nutrition is a big word these days. It's a pretty confusing one too. We can easily get lost in the trends: the latest diet that promises to melt the pounds away, the one that guarantees to banish bloating, the diet that assures we'll have the 'perfect body' in a matter of week... The truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. We are all biochemically different; we each have our own stories and therefore, our own needs.

What is Holistic Nutrition?

Our bodies, our minds and our hearts are not one-dimensional, and neither is our health! Holistic nutrition differs from other forms of nutritional perspectives by focusing on a natural approach to a healthy diet and considering the individual as a whole. Holistic nutrition accounts for all of our unique needs and habits, including food and exercise, as well as emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Approaching our wellness from this perspective allows us to step more fully into ourselves. When we learn how to feed ourselves according to our own individual needs, we begin to move towards optimal energy and immunity, as well as emotional health. Our bodies become more adapted and better able to fight problems such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity and cancer.

What does a RHN do?

As a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN), I can help you understand your own specific path towards health. As we reestablish our relationship to food, we reestablish our relationship to ourselves. Food provides us with the essential nutrients that build and regenerate our bones, muscles, fat and blood. Without them, we can become deficient and we can, unknowingly, create an internal environment that can lead to disease. The good news is that, as we learn how to truly feed and nourish ourselves, we can create an internal environment that leads to balance, health and vitality! It's never too late!

I can help you learn how to use macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats), fibre, and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) to create health and balance. I can provide guidance and education that will help you make the best choices in regards to your wellness, be it a struggle with a current health condition, prevention, healthy weight loss or gain, energy balance or even learning about your relationship to stress and how it has the potential to affect everything! Together, we can also explore the intricate relationships between food, emotion and spirit. This aspect of nourishment is often overlooked, and yet so important to long lasting change and wellness.
